MHS was founded in 2002 by Dr. Mark Carlson and is co-owned by Dr. Lane Pederson, an internationally recognized expert on DBT and the author of The Expanded Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Manual: Practical DBT for Self-Help, and Individual & Group Treatment Settings. MHS has clinic locations in Edina, Woodbury, and Maple Grove.

MHS is a Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) certified and nationally accredited provider of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). In contrast to many other providers, we provide DBT services across levels of care, customizing therapy to each individual client. We also work with clients and their existing health care providers in a collaborative fashion, building treatment teams that work.

MHS is a leader in practice-based evidence, tracking clinical outcomes with the Treatment Outcome Package (TOP) and with a longitudinal hospitalization study. Our outcome data shows that our clients achieve clinically significant improvement in reported symptoms, including depression, anxiety, and substance use, and that our clients who have a history of hospitalizations show a statistically significant reduction in hospitalization rates.
